About Bunting Digital Forensics

At Bunting Digital Forensics, we do more than parse bytes—we unravel truth in a digital world. Whether it’s a homicide investigation, an insider threat, or high-stakes litigation, we cut through the noise and bring clarity to the data.

Founded by Stephen M. Bunting, a retired law enforcement officer and one of the earliest voices in digital forensics, the lab blends investigative instinct with technical precision. Steve has co-authored five forensic texts, worked both defense and prosecution, and doesn’t take sides—just the truth, wherever it leads.

You’ll find his fingerprints on some of the field’s first protocols, and his cross-examinations backed by logs no opposing expert wants to see.

An Expert-First Approach

Steve spent decades in uniform before becoming one of the first experts to formalize digital forensic practices. He’s co-authored five forensic texts, helped train generations of forensic examiners in both the U.S. and abroad. He has taught or mentored examiners in nearly 30 foreign countries over a fifteen year period.

He once cracked an IP theft case using Apple Unified Logs before most people knew they existed.

He’s also been known to photograph lightning, outwit custom malware, and wrangle Albanian routers from under desks in pursuit of justice.

Balanced. Experienced. Uncompromising. No-Nonsense. No Corners Cut.

Steve doesn’t mince words or massage results. He tells you what the data says—even if it’s not what you want to hear. And when the other side tries to twist the facts, he’s got the logs (and timestamps) to back it all up.

Steve’s expert witness work is split almost evenly across defense and prosecution, plaintiff and defendant. He doesn’t play sides—he plays it straight. When you hire Bunting Digital Forensics, you’re getting more than a report. You’re getting a voice the courtroom listens to.

We believe digital evidence is perishable and integrity is non-negotiable. We act fast, preserve thoroughly, and testify plainly. If something’s been deleted, altered, or forged—we find it.

When you need a forensic expert who’s been there, seen it, and still cares about doing it right—you’re in the right place.
